The 7 Scents Collection is my new treasure chest. It was created by Mónica Ceño Elie-Joseph, founder and owner of The Lab Room, a famous 70s style spa in Madrid. The box contains seven perfume roll-ons to mix your own, unique scent. Of course you can wear them each one by itself, but it is so much fun to try out new combinations.
You can blend the perfume oils (head notes, middle notes, base notes) on your skin, but be careful. Put them on the skin one after the other, don’t roll one scent into another vial. Afterwards mix them together on your skin, which is the most important component in this experiment.
The perfumes are 100 per cent natural on a base of jojoba oil and have aromatherapy properties.
1 Amyris:
This base note is a woody scent from Haiti. It recreates the mystery of the Caribbean mingled with African traditions, giving you inner strength. Mix with 2,3,5,6.
This scent has kind of a nutty note.
2 Commiphora: Myrrh, a base note, balsamic and velvety, etheric and fascinating. It induces meditation and contemplation, stimulating the energetic centers of your mind and body. Mix with 1, 2, 3, 6.
This one is so amazing! I thought that it contains amber or tonka bean, but Mónica told me that it is very special myrrh, that she has found years ago and which she loves because it is very sweet. I have never smelled myrrh that is so heavenly and works as a perfume without being blended with anything else. I need this as an atomizer to spray it all over me, otherwise I’m gonna die. Mónica promised to save me.
3 Tuberosa:
A blend of middle floral notes of tuberose, jasmine sambac and geranium, associated to sensuality, thus the drawing of the opium flower. This blend is freshened by a touch of tangerine. Mix with 5, 6, 7.
Wonderful, even if you wear it pure!
4 Cedrus Rosae:
Cedar intensifies the Indian rose absolute and they both linger on the mystic patchouli creating a blend of persistency that evokes love, sexuality and mysticism. Mix it with 1, 2, 7.
My second favorite. Mónica blended it with rose absolute from India and so it works well with the cedar wood.
5 Pimentae:
The pungent and vibrant quality of the West Indies bay recreate the deep world of the Caribbean heritage combined with citrics like bitter orange and tangerine, both top notes wrapped by the floral note of geranium. Mix with 3, 6, 7.
A gorgeous blend of pepper and citrus notes with a hint of “minty“ geranium.
6 Odoratae:
East and West have never been closer, a symbiotic mix between fresh lavender, and geranium topped by the intoxicating ylang-ylang flower. Sensual and calming at the same time. Mix with 2, 3, 5.
Lavender blended with geranium – great and very fresh!
7 Bergamia:
Italian bergamot, radiant and illuminating, infused with French rose and cypress from the Mediterranean hills. Mix with 4, 5.
This rose feels like having ethereal needles, the bergamot reveals a very fresh appeal. I love it!
There is everything I need and I have to say that I am very into natural scents at the moment. Every night, when I go to bed I try another perfume oil and it feels so good.
The raw materials are the best you can think of. Tracing the multicultural background of Monica Ceño, the scents are inspired by the Caribbean heritage of her grandfather via Pimentae, the Lebannese background of her grandmother via Cedrus Rosae, the lavender fields of her childhood, and the Mediterranean coast, full of cypress and bergamot.
The botanical etchings on the roll-ons are made by Miguel Domingo, who is also responsible for The Lab Room interiors.
The Lab Room was quoted as „an astonishing spa“ by Wallpaper and as “the spa of the city offering the most original treatments in the world of beauty care” by VOGUE Italia. I like the idea that the wonderful “Black Swan“ Natalie Portman was already there as well as the beautiful Spanish actor Gael García Bernal or the amazing actress Penélope Cruz and many more.
