Can you feel what the birds and the sun have told me today? It’s definitely time for spring and time for my Top 10 Spring Scents!
Annick Goutal: Un matin d’orage
I discovered this scent on one of my strolls through the beauty departments of Berlin only a few days ago. Believe me, Un matin d’orage is so very beautiful! To me it smells like the most delicious French apricot marmalade and reminds me of having breakfast on the rooftop of a small hotel in Cannes, where we spent the holidays with my parents when I was 15 years old. During these holidays I had my first kiss. Later on Un matin d’orage fades into a soft and creamy, very feminine gardenia perfume with notes of lemon, perilla leaves, ginger, jasmine sambac, champaca, magnolia and sandalwood. Gorgeous and sunny, that’s all we need now!
Les exclusifs de Chanel: Coromandel
Spring is the time of the year when the soil is getting warm and evaporates its wonderful flavors, that we have missed during wintertime. Coromandel by Chanel is like a soft, warm prayer to the earth. Christopher Sheldrake created one of the most delicate and sophisticated patchouli perfumes ever, wonderfully balanced with benzoe – a resin that reveals a yummy vanilla-caramel flavor – a hint of frankincense, woody notes and warm amber. Also for those who normally say, that they don’t like patchouli at all. Coromandel is just warm and wow, perfect when the sun is shining but not too much, and in the next moment there is a little bit of shadow. It’s grounding and I love all its facets from earthy to sweet and powdery. Dear Maison Chanel, please offer a travel size, the 200ml vial is too big for my purse!
Parfum d’Empire: Iskander
Iskander is the Persian name for Alexander the Great. This perfume is elegant and timeless and I recommend it for men, although it is claimed to be unisex. It starts very fresh with grapefruit and lemon, like a classical cologne to settle down on a warm, green base with spicy notes and virile aspects of oak moss in a wonderful blend with white musk and amber. I like the contrast of fresh and warm elements. Perfect with jeans and T-shirt but also perfect with a suit.
Serge Lutens: Clair de Musc
I visited a Serge Lutens fragrance reading at the Galeries Lafayette Berlin. After having tested about 10 different perfumes, I had three favorites and while we were served Moroccan tea and dried dates I was thinking about which one I would wear in spring… it’s Clair de Musc! This rather fresh musk with neroli and iris is not too powdery and not overly sweet. It is a quite innocent, transparent musk which you will enjoy a lot. It is the absolute contrast to Musc Koblai Khan, which is so dark and animalic.
Hermès: Un jardin sur le toît
I know you all are curious about the smell of this little garden, the rooftop of Hermès, that has inspired Jean-Claude Ellena for Un jardin sur le toît. You can absolutely smell the signature of this line, the signature of Jean-Claude Ellena – this in advance. Do not expect something completely new, it is very close to Un jardin sur le Nil… and it is totally green (very close to the green mango in Un jardin sur le Nil), green apples, herbs and green grass. It is really fresh and uplifting, all my friends I showed it, loved it. These Hermès apples smell very sophisticated and fresh. Green, green, green!
I was dancing around this bottle several times during the last months, today I finally bought it and it feels so good! Warm, balmy, spicy, floral, exotic. It reminds me a little bit of Narciso Rodriguez for her but it is more lushious, more sensual, less sharp. It makes me feel special and every time I turn my head I smell this wonderful perfume in my hair. I just can’t get enough and the longevity is great! Lalibela is inspired by the holy city Lalibela in Ethiopia. With notes of peony, coconut, orchid, rose, jasmine, patchouli, vanilla musk, tobacco leaves, incense and woods. You should also try the Memo interior scents, which are great. My boyfriend bought St. Moritz Fizz with guajak wood and incense, which reminds us of Black Tourmaline by Olivier Durbano. Our apartment smells wonderful today!
Maison Francis Kurkdjian: Absolue Pour le Matin
If you want to feel like coming fresh from the shower and having put on some lotion, this one is for you. Absolue Pour le Matin is the most beautiful scent for the day that I have found in awhile. With bergamot, lemon, orange blossoms, white thyme and lavender. Very uplifting, very sophisticated. I could take a bath in it! Somebody said that it smells like Nivea lotion – and yes, indeed there is something in the opening accord that reminds me of it. Only for a second or two…
Comme des Garçons: Calamus
Calamus, part of the leaves series, was created by Bertrand Duchaufour. It is hard to find, but you should really try this one! It smells like breaking stems, thick stems that have this milky juice inside. One of my favorite green scents because it is so soft and milky. And it gets softer and softer and softer. Wonderful!
Boadicea The Victorious: Divine
A beautiful white floral with creamy, innocent jasmine. Divine starts rather clean, aldehydic and green and turns into a musky base with a twist of violet. Delicate and beautiful for the day. A very sensual, smooth and warm scent. There is this very small touch of bitter almond that makes Divine so divine. They say, that Michelle Obama bought three perfumes from this line: Divine, Noble and Delicate. Good choice!
Yosh: Ginger Ciao
Ginger Ciao definitely is my favorite perfume oil by Yosh. I makes me calm and I start feeling very close to myself. A delicious creation with notes of black coconut, neroli, night queen, tiger lily, ylang ylang, ginger, sandalwood and basil – slightly oriental. It is dedicated to the second chakra and really makes you feel good. Yosh writes: “I notice that my energy level increases, whenever I wear Ginger Ciao. I also notice that whenever other people wear Ginger Ciao, their energy spikes.“ I agree completely, this perfume is pure energy!
