How do silk stockings smell? Which associations do they evoke? Seduction, delicacy, skin, powdery notes, intimacy, eroticism, striptease?
Bas de Soie, which means silk stockings in French, is a floral creation from hyacinths and powdery, earthy notes of iris. Serge Lutens was inspired by the blue color of these two flowers. Hyacinths have a very intense, almost aggressive smell. Bas de Soie opens with it, pungent like glue that makes your nose burn. The scent needs some time, then it turns from something green, metallic and sharp into a spicy elixir to finally settle down and become very subtle and powdery. Bas de Soie is a floral splash of color that fades away as fast as hyacinths decay after they start to blossom and drive us over the edge with their smell.
What does Bas de Soie have in common with silk stockings? It is sharp, sexy, alluring and in the end just a touch of nothing. In the drydown you can find a silky, soft, spicy, woody iris note that stays very close to the skin – like a second skin, like a silk stocking.
After Serge Lutens‘ ‚anti-perfume‘ L’eau, Bas de Soie is like switching into the first gear after idling. A very French, sophisticated floral.
